Find something you talked about before
Search inside one conversation or across all of them, and name things so you can find them later.
Search inside one conversation
Open the conversation and use Search messages. Type a word and jump to where it was said, rather than scrolling.
Search for something distinctive — a name, a number, a product — rather than a common word. "Invoice" appears everywhere; "Vance" probably appears once.
Search across all of them
Search conversations in the sidebar looks across everything, so it is the right tool when you cannot remember which conversation it was in.
Two things to remember about scope:
- Files have their own place. Something Orsola made is in your gallery, findable by type and date, which is usually faster than remembering the conversation.
- Meeting transcripts search separately, inside the meeting itself — see read the transcript and get the summary.
Name conversations so you can find them later
This is the part that actually solves the problem. A conversation named for its subject is findable months later; twenty conversations named after their first message are not.
Rename from the conversation's menu, and do it when you finish rather than when you start — by then you know what it was about.
Names that work are specific: "Vance contract review", not "contract". And keeping one long-running conversation per topic beats starting a new one each time, because everything stays in one searchable place.
If you still cannot find it
- Try a word from the answer, not your question. You remember what you asked; the reply may be what is actually indexed in your memory of it.
- Check your gallery if what you want is a file or an image.
- Check whether you deleted it. Deleting a conversation is permanent, and there is no recycle bin.
Where to go next
Rename, tidy, or delete a conversation covers keeping the list manageable in the first place.
