Expense filed under the wrong thing?
A wrong amount, date, or category — and how to correct it.
What you are seeing
An entry with the wrong amount, the wrong date, the wrong merchant or the wrong category — usually because a receipt was read imperfectly, occasionally because a category was guessed.
All of it is editable, and none of it needs us.
Fix it directly
- Open Expense Management from your Dashboard and find the entry.
- Open it to edit.
- Correct whatever is wrong — amount, currency, date, merchant, description, category, payment method, notes.
- Save.
Or say it: "the parking one from Tuesday should be 8.40, not 84".
When a receipt was read badly
Some receipts are genuinely hard — faded thermal paper, a crumpled photo, an unusual layout, a foreign currency. What goes wrong most:
- A decimal point. 4260 for 42.60 is the classic, and the one worth checking first because it distorts every total it touches.
- The wrong total picked up — a subtotal, or the cash tendered rather than the amount paid.
- The date, where the receipt shows more than one.
- The currency, on a receipt from abroad.
A clearer photo often fixes it outright: flat, well lit, the whole receipt in frame. If a receipt keeps coming out wrong, enter it by hand — faster than arguing with it.
When the category is wrong
Change it on the entry. Categories are a judgement about your work, not a fact on the receipt — a lunch might be meals or client entertainment depending on how you account for it, and Orsola cannot know which you meant.
If the same kind of expense keeps landing in the wrong category, say so when you log it — "this one goes under client entertainment" — rather than correcting it afterwards each time.
Duplicates and entries that should not exist
Delete the entry. A receipt sent twice produces two entries, and they both count towards your totals until one goes.
Worth a scan before month end: two identical amounts on the same date are almost always one expense logged twice.
Still stuck
If an entry will not save a correction, or a total does not match the entries beneath it, get in touch with the date and amount of the entry and what you were trying to change.
